Imperial, CA — On March 25, Erickson-Hall Construction Co., in partnership with the Imperial Valley Community College District, celebrated the groundbreaking of two major campus projects: the Public Safety Regional Training Center and a new Maintenance and Operations Warehouse. These developments represent a significant investment in workforce training, campus infrastructure and regional public safety.
The Public Safety Regional Training Center will serve as a vital hub for aspiring first responders, supporting expanded training opportunities in fire science, emergency medical services and law enforcement.
“This project enhances Imperial Valley Community College District’s technical training capabilities for fire and emergency medical services programs to meet the current and long-term needs of students, expanding the training center’s ability to serve the community,” said IVC Superintendent/President Dr. Lennor M. Johnson. “We are proud to partner with Erickson-Hall and are grateful for their continued commitment to building high-quality infrastructure that supports students in reaching their full potential.”
The facility will feature a 35,000-square-foot educational complex alongside a 5,000-square-foot fire engine and storage facility. Designed to support comprehensive first responder training, the center will include specialized classrooms, laboratories, administrative space and an indoor firing range aligned with Police Officer Standards and Training.
“The Imperial Valley College Public Safety Regional Training Center will provide a dynamic environment for students to develop their skills, compete and grow both within the center and beyond,” said Mat Gates, President of Erickson-Hall Construction Co. “We are honored to collaborate with the Imperial Valley Community College District to develop cutting-edge facilities that promote student progress and success.”
Both projects are funded through the Measure B bond approved by local voters in 2022, which supports critical improvements to Imperial Valley College facilities and expands educational infrastructure to better serve students and the broader community.
In addition to the training center, the new Maintenance and Operations Warehouse will centralize maintenance, operations and receiving services currently housed in the 1800 Building. This transition is expected to improve efficiency in campus operations, including shipping, receiving and facilities support services.
Located on the northwest portion of campus, these projects reflect Imperial Valley College’s continued commitment to strengthening workforce pathways and enhancing the student experience through modern, purpose-built facilities.
The groundbreaking event welcomed campus leadership, community members and regional public safety partners. As construction moves forward, the college looks to deepen collaboration with local agencies and expand opportunities for students pursuing careers in public safety.
