San Diego, CA – Erickson-Hall Construction Co. is proud to announce that the East Valley Public Safety Training Center at Crafton Hills College has received a 2024 Firehouse Station Design Award from Firehouse Magazine!

Winning bronze in its Training Facilities category, the facility earned recognition for its innovative design approach to firefighter education and training environments. Designed by PBK Architects and constructed by Erickson-Hall, the 6,848-square-foot training facility serves as a vital education and training hub for Yucaipa after opening to the public last year.

“We’re thrilled to see this critical project receive well-deserved national recognition,” said Mat Gates, president of Erickson-Hall. “From the initial design to the final ribbon-cutting, this facility represents design and construction excellence at its finest. We’re proud of every phase of this project and how this facility will serve the community for years to come.”

The Firehouse Station Design Awards recognize exceptional fire and emergency service facilities across seven categories, emphasizing architectural excellence, functionality and innovation. A panel of industry experts evaluates entries, with winning projects often serving as blueprints for future public safety infrastructure.

The East Valley Public Safety Training Center is a vital addition to Crafton Hills College’s fire academy, providing students with a diverse array of training environments. Built with durable concrete masonry and high-temperature linings in burn areas, the facility also includes a live fire car prop, breach props, maze panels, forcible entry doors and integrates the academy’s water recycling system.

The three-story training tower is equipped with state-of-the-art features, including propane-fueled live fire props, electrical and gas meter props, confined space training structures, a Class A flashover chamber with a scrubber and fire sprinkler demonstration risers. These elements enable comprehensive, hands-on training scenarios that prepare future firefighters for real-world emergencies.

Erickson-Hall Construction is honored to have contributed to this transformative project and extends its gratitude to PBK Architects, the dedicated team members and project partners who made the facility’s success possible.
