OCEANSIDE —- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside chose the scenic Arrowood Golf Course in the hills of Oceanside for its seventh annual Golf Tournament in June.
The game began with a 1 p.m. shotgun scramble, but golfers and organizers had been there for hours for registration and to get acquainted with auction items.
Eighty golfers took to the course that day, helping to raise $27,000 for the club.
Title sponsors were Toll Brothers and Erickson-Hall Construction. Eagle sponsors were Union Bank and Sonnenberg & Co. Pacific Marine Credit Union provided the hats. Other sponsors included Alfred Fucile, Dixon Golf, Oceanside Unified school board President Mike Blessing, DEI Holdings Inc., Councilman Jack Feller, Polito Eppich & Associates, Cox Business, Qualcomm and Dr. William Dern.
When it was all sliced and bogied out, the first-place team, sponsored by Michael Klein, included golfers Kevin Grump, Griffin Springfield, Bill Christopher and Tim Christopher.
Closest-to-the-pin winners, all from the DEI Holdings team, were KC Bean, Araceli Marquez and Ryan Minarik.
The awards dinner was a barbecued chicken buffet with salads, baked potatoes and strawberry shortcake for dessert, donated by Boys & Girls Clubs board member Donal Yasukochi.
Committee members included Esther Vialles, Stephanie Peterson, Amy Caillouette, Hillary Adams and Candace Fletcher.
Officers include President and Chief Volunteer Officer Tanya Gover; Vice President Robbie Hass; Second Vice President Kathleen Houck; Treasurer Donald Eppich; Secretary Michael Klein; and Chief Executive Officer Tammy Walz.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside is in its 60th year and has grown to serve 1,400 youths daily at 14 locations. The club strives to help at-risk youths succeed academically and is constantly working to improve facilities, expand programs and activities, and keep membership dues low so that no child is turned away for financial reasons.
