Local contracting firms have been named among the nation’s safest construction companies by the Virginia-based Associated General Contractors of America.
Orion Construction of Vista and Dynalectric Co. of San Diego were among 29 contractors nationwide taking first-place honors for 2012 in the trade association’s annual Construction Safety Excellence Awards, sponsored by Willis Construction.
A statement from the contractor group said the local firms were among those awarded for leadership in safety and loss prevention programs. Orion and Dynalectric were recognized for “outstanding guidance” in areas such as safety and occupation health management, risk control, safety training and work site hazard identification and control.
Erickson-Hall Construction Co. of Escondido received second-place recognition, and Baker Electric Inc. of Escondido was among those placing third.
Award winners are selected by a panel of five independent safety professionals within the government, corporate and insurance industries. Final judging took place during the association’s recent annual national convention.
Associated General Contractors, founded in 1918, represents more than 33,000 construction firms, including 7,500 of the nation’s leading general contractors. It has 95 chartered chapters, including one in San Diego County.
