Erickson-Hall Construction Co. presented a $10,000 check to Escondido Union High School District Superintendent Edward J. Nelson earlier this month.
The gift will be used in the first-of-its kind community program to guarantee a college education to worthy high school students in the three Escondido high schools. Erickson-Hall principals Dave Erickson and Mike Hall made the presentation.
The program, called MAP, requires its high school participants maintain an academic focus, attend school daily, and participate in school and community activities.
It is a four-year contract the students sign just prior to beginning their first year of high school.
Escondido Chamber President/CEO Harvey Mitchell noted that the program began with the class of 2011, as they began their freshman year in fall 2007, has grown from 67 students more than 1,500.
